Formal Spellbooks
All spells from the Annotations must be cast and activated while holding or reading from a formal spellbook, which is a large tome (at least 5 x 8”) of good quality made with the artistry specialty as an Accomplished Work or better.

Cosmopolitan Rituals
Rituals from this school are cosmopolitan, meaning the school simply does not have rituals of its own. Instead, they are chosen as the caster likes from any other standard, prime world’s rituals of the listed duration. “Standard” in this case meaning an active prime world whose school of sorcery does not have Dire rituals. The nature of the Annotations gives the caster basic knowledge of these rituals, so only cursory justification is required when choosing them. Do note, however, that copying a ritual into the Annotations prevents you from ever picking it in its original school, and you may not copy a ritual you already formally know as part of another school of magic.

Chosen rituals are performed exactly as their original text indicates, though they obviously generate Annotations charges instead of their normal effect.

Spells

The Foundations of Rhetoric

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
None

Casting Verbal
“Rhetoric is that faculty of observing in any given case the available means of persuasion, and with a thorough grounding in its foundations, applied judiciously, we make civil the discourse of public life.”

Activation Verbals
(see below)

Description
Once cast, this spell grants the caster a number of activations equal to their Mastery, which can be used to cast one of the following three cantrips. Note that the activation verbal for each effect (cantrip) simply consists of its name, but is still a verbal and can be flubbed, theoretically. Universally, and as a strict roleplaying requirement, the caster must nod their head thoughtfully when intoning an activation verbal, as if reminded of something they actually read in that work.

Ethos and the Character Public
This cantrip may only be cast within one minute of the caster becoming the target of a use of Etiquette or the full, active responder to an inspired performance. The Foundations of Rhetoric must be active before the triggering effect occurs. Upon intoning the verbal of this cantrip and spending an activation, the caster gains a free Feat of Will as a non-stackable enchantment effect which lasts until sunset or used, whichever comes first.
Empowered: The caster feat increases to a Greater Feat of Will.

Staberinde’s Implications of Pathos
This cantrip may only be cast within one minute of the caster becoming the full, active (non-resisting) recipient of any basic, greater, or heroic Feat of Charisma, and The Foundations of Rhetoric must be active before the triggering effect occurs. Upon activating this cantrip and intoning its verbal, the caster gains a free basic FoCharisma as a standard enchantment which lasts until used or until sunset, whichever comes first. Obviously, this effect may not be cast in response to one’s own FoCharisma, only one activation may be used per triggering effect, and the enchantment-based feat will not stack with itself.
Empowered: The caster feat increases to a Greater Feat of Charisma.

Vexillarium’s Logos Monolithica
This cantrip may only be cast immediately after the caster bids their resources during a formal investigation involving complex, abstract concepts and nothing else (no physical props or a character as a target), and obviously the Foundations must be active before the Investigation is called . Assuming the investigation is not an abject failure, the caster, and they alone, get an extra question they may ask at any time during the investigation. Only one such activation may be called during a particular investigation by an individual caster.
Empowered: The caster may ask two questions instead of one.

The Essentials of Mathematics

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“As far as the essential laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain, and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality. Nevertheless, all knowledge flows from the purity of this uncertain source.”

“The Wheels of the Cosmos”
While a willing recipient is in the meditative process for a Divination spell or an act of prophecy, whose means of action is focused on mathematical symbols or runes, this cantrip may be activated to grant them a +1 Mastery or Attuned level for that purpose. This bonus is lost immediately after the divination is completed, and note that the cantrip may be not used for the caster’s own divinations.
Empowered: The bonus increases to +2 Mastery or +2 Attunement.

“Lorinthia’s Impossible Conjectures”
This cantrip may only be cast immediately after the caster bids their resources during a formal investigation involving mathematical/symbolic text props, schematics, or upon a geometric puzzle or similarly styled artifact, and obviously the Essentials must be active before the investigation is called. If any of the other members of the investigation has to pass on a question, you may instead ask in their place. This effect persists for the duration of the investigation and will work on multiple failed questions. If you pass on any of your questions, however, the effect immediately ends.
Empowered: The allowed total questions in the investigation may be asked by any participant as they wish, rather than being divided equally among them.

“Principles of Internal Symbology”
The caster may activate this cantrip (after 3 seconds of concentration as a touch effect) in order to reduce the time of the next Meditative ritual undertaken by the recipient by five minutes, to a minimum of five. The enchantment lasts until used or until sunset, whichever comes first.
Empowered: The cantrip will reduce the next ritual undertaken by its target to 5 minutes duration, meditative or not.

The Requisites of History

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“History is written by the victors, for the benefit of the survivors, according to the requisites of power. To know the truth of history is to realize its ultimate myth and its inevitable ambiguity, yet this ambiguity does not rescue us from the responsibilities of knowledge.”

“Taleflower’s Origin in Thrall”

During a conversation with an actual Celestial, Deity, or Elemental, you may activate this cantrip in order to call a free use of Etiquette. Multiple uses of this cantrip may be called on the same target, but no quicker than once per minute. It is appropriate to ask OOP if the target is one of those categories before activating the cantrip.
Empowered: As an additional effect, you may activate this cantrip to increase your Artifice by 1 for interacting with an ancient or very old Artifact such as those belonging to the Guild Monarchs. It is appropriate to ask Out of Play if the target is one of those categories before activating the cantrip. The bonus ends upon partaking of the object/location.

“The Myth of Antipodes”
This cantrip may activated only after one minute of concentration during which the caster must reside in complete darkness. Once complete, they create a source of magical light of any color of their choice, as per the standard rules for such.
Empowered: The caster may activate this cantrip and destroy an active magical light of any sort to gain a sunset enchantment which will, upon dropping it, allow them to cast a packet-based, damage-dealing instant spell at +2 Mastery. Note that readied effects, while up, prevent the casting of other spells.

“The Mantle of Forgotten Time”
This cantrip may only be cast immediately after the caster bids their resources during a formal investigation involving historical texts, holy books, cultist propaganda, or personal correspondence from long ago, and obviously the Requisites must be active before the Investigation is called. Upon doing so, the marshal in charge of the investigation will grant each interlocutor a private vision relating the target of the investigation to their own personal history in a significant way. Only one use of this cantrip is permitted during an investigation. Note: If the character does not have a character background on file, this vision may fail.
Empowered: During any investigation in which this cantrip is activated, if it fails, the participants are refunded any expended abilities and do not have the investigation count towards their limit, where applicable. Note that the same target may not be investigated again, however, as per the normal investigation rules.

The Disciplines of Naturalism

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“So profound is our ignorance of nature, and so high the presumption of our own discipline, that we marvel when we hear of the extinction of any phase of being; and as we do not see the cause, we invoke cataclysms to desolate the world, or invent laws presuming to bracket an age.”

“Farblind’s Book of the Wild”
The caster may activate this cantrip to add 1 to the Explore value of a willing target as a touch effect following 3 seconds of concentration. If the recipient does not have at least one level in Survival, this enchantment has no effect. The enchantment persists until sunset or the recipient takes an Explore Tag, whichever comes first.
Empowered: The recipient gets +2 Explore instead of +1.

“The Path of Wort-Cunning”
Upon concentrating for 3 seconds and touching a willing recipient, the target gains an enchantment which increases, by 3, the effective Treatment level of any healer that attempts to treat them. The enchantment lasts until sunset or until the recipient is successfully treated for persistent conditions, whichever comes first.
Empowered: The recipient increases Treatment applied to themselves by 6, rather than 3.

“A Treatise on Vital Forces”
The caster may use an activation of this cantrip as a touch effect on a willing and aware target (who must be given full knowledge of the consequences prior to casting), immediately rendering them Critical and Stabilized. Upon doing so, the caster gains a non-stackable enchantment which they may expend as a touch effect to Stabilize any other critical target. The enchantment lasts until used or until sunset, whichever comes first.
Empowered: Anyone stabilized by this cantrip gains two levels of enhanced healing.

The Revelations of Beauty

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“Among the most tragic of contradictions there is this: beauty gives of itself only to those of unencumbered joy, while the understanding of the beautiful, however, is given only to those burdened with Sensibility, whose dull labors run contrariwise to all revelation.”

“The Life and Death of the Arts”
If cast upon a willing target within one minute of having partaken of an Inspiration effect from a standalone piece of Masterwork art (medium or large), they gain an enchantment which provides them with the Tenacious ability from the Tough trait. If they already have this ability, this cantrip will be of no use to them. The enchantment persists until sunset or until the recipient is Stabilized or otherwise restored from being Critical, whichever comes first.
Empowered: While the enchantment is active, the recipient gains 1 to their Vitality as a non-stackable effect. Note that being stabilized or healed from the Critical state still drops the enchantment.

“The Genius Aspirant”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster can activate this cantrip as a touch effect to give a willing recipient an enchantment they may use after spending at least ten minutes drawing, painting, making calligraphy, paper folding, sculpting, or doing any other visual art intended only for aesthetic purposes. Upon doing so, they restore a single feat of their choice. This enchantment lasts until sunset or until used, whichever comes first, and cannot stack with itself. A recipient cannot benefit from this cantrip more than once per day, but it does not count against them for the purposes of partaking of Inspiring art.
Empowered: The recipient restores two feats instead of one.

“Morganthall’s Creatrix”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster can activate this cantrip as a touch effect to give a willing recipient an enchantment that grants them +2 to Craft production for the purposes of any in-game production actions involving lumencraft, jewelcraft, or artistry. The enchantment lasts until the recipient uses their in-game production period, or until sunset, whichever comes first. This effect may not be used during check-in.
Empowered: The production bonus increases to 4.

The Intricacies of Design

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“At the intersection of utility and aesthetics sits Design: the practice whose intricacies grant us the means by which we are able to live, and yet also the means to create what we live for. The same hand that can draw art for the sake of emotional expression can give shape to a model of useful purpose.”

“Yesha’s Hands of the Father”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster can activate this cantrip as a touch effect to give a willing recipient an enchantment which grants them the Intermediate Repair ability. This enchantment ends as soon as the recipient repairs an item or until sunset, whichever comes first. If the recipient already has Intermediate or Advanced repair, the enchantment will be of no use.
Empowered: The enchantment is not expended at the next repair. The recipient gains intermediate repair until sunset.

“The Spontaneous Machine”
Upon triggering a trap without being rendered unconscious or critical, or by being in the immediate (15’) presence of another tinkerer upon their disarming a trap, picking a lock, or calibrating a Railcaster, you may activate this cantrip within 1 minute of the triggering effect to gain the Basic Devices ability until sunset. If the caster already has the Basic Devices ability from some other source, they instead gain +2 to their Tinkering Production until sunset, for all purposes. Intricacies must be active prior to the triggering effect in order for this cantrip to be activated, and the bonus this spell provides may not stack with itself or other enchantment-based sources.
Empowered: You may drop The Intricacies of Design in order to call a Contrivance as an activation of this Cantrip. Only one such use of Contrivance may be done in this fashion per day.

“The Transcendence of Labor”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster may activate this cantrip as a touch effect to give a willing recipient an enchantment which can be expended after they bid their resources during a formal investigation involving a material, crafted object that is of superior or masterwork quality, or is an overtly magical artifact. Upon burning the enchantment, the user must willingly Destroy a set of Tinker’s Tools or a Repair Kit as a strict requirement, the effect of which is to immediately increase the success level of the investigation by 1. Only one use of this enchantment is viable during a single investigation. The enchantment persists until sunset or it is used, whichever comes first.
Empowered: After meeting the requirements for this cantrip, it increases the success level of the investigation by 2, rather than 1.

The Principles of Expression

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“All blessings to the dreamers, to those who know no principle but expression; let them ride with the spirits upon the wind; let them run on the top of the dishevelled tide; let them dance upon the mountains like a flame.”

“The Unities of Beholding”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster can activate this cantrip as a touch effect to give a willing recipient an enchantment they may expend at will to restore one of their feats upon calling an Inspired Performance, in a similar fashion as the Audience of One ability. Note that this effect only restores a single feat, regardless of the level of inspiration called, however. This enchantment lasts until sunset or until used, whichever comes first, and cannot stack with itself, and obviously is useless if the recipient cannot call an inspired performance ability.
Empowered: The recipient gains 2 feats rather than 1.

“Periclinian’s Stirrings of the Blood”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster can activate this cantrip as a touch effect to give a willing target an enchantment they may expend upon partaking of any inspired performance involving dance or focused on some other form of bodily motion. As they do so, in addition to feat restoration, they gain a level of enhanced healing which lasts until sunset or they are stabilized by any means.
Empowered: The recipient gains 2 levels of enhanced healing rather than 1.

“Kelspeth’s Life of Small Passions”
The caster can activate this cantrip as a touch effect on a willing target within one minute of them performing a ritual directly involving song, gift-giving, the playing of tricks, or the playing of games. Upon doing so, they gain +1 maximum Vitality as a standard enchantment effect until sunset. This spell may not be cast on oneself.
Empowered: The recipient gains +2 Vitality rather than 1.

The Wellsprings of Language

Activation Verbals
(see below)

Universally, and as a strict roleplaying requirement, the caster must nod their head thoughtfully when intoning an activation verbal, as if reminded of something they actually read in that work.

“The Librarian’s Concordance”
Within one minute of being allowed to read from the living text of a Pagefolk, the caster may activate this cantrip in order to gain the Gift of Tongues (Scholarship) ability explicitly for the purposes of reading a text in a language they normally do not know. The enchantment persists until they read a single example of such a text, or sunset arrives, whichever comes first. One’s own living text may not be used to trigger this spell.
Empowered: The effect persists until sunset and is not expended upon reading any text.

“Tsopix’s Guideposts and Wordstones”
This cantrip may only be cast immediately before joining a formal investigation involving poetry, arcane runecraft, or iconography. Doing so allows the caster to partake in the investigation without counting against the total number they are allotted per day. If the caster has the Advanced Inquiry ability, the cantrip instead allows them to call a free Greater Feat of Learning once during the investigation.
Empowered: This cantrip is no longer limited to just the caster.

“Stylistics of High Disquisition”
This cantrip may only be cast immediately after the caster bids their resources during a formal investigation involving dense, scholarly prose texts of any sort. Upon completion of the investigation, the marshal in charge must ask and answer a question that they believe is the most important among those the participants failed to pose.
Empowered: The marshal must ask and answer 2 questions rather than 1.

The Anatomies of Spirit

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal

Activation Verbals
(see below)

Description
Once cast, this spell grants the caster a number of activations equal to their Mastery, which can be used to cast one of the following three cantrips. Note that the activation verbal for each effect (cantrip) simply consists of its name, but is still a verbal and can be flubbed, theoretically. Universally, and as a strict roleplaying requirement, the caster must nod their head thoughtfully when intoning an activation verbal, as if reminded of something they actually read in that work.

“The Apocrypha of Blessed Dignities”
During a conversation with a Spirit being you may activate this cantrip in order to call a free etiquette upon them. The Atlases of Worlds

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“The Singularity of Worlds is a pattern of deception, a puzzling atlas of surpassing complexity incomprehensible to even the wisest of us. It is the truest purpose of Ounish Worldstriding, then, to solve the riddle, to answer that greatest of all questions.”

“Sheltem’s Geomantic Principles”
After 3 seconds of concentration the caster may activate this cantrip in order to grant a willing recipient an enchantment which will, when burned, allow them to immediately cast a Circle or Wall spell (spent for and cast as normal) at +2 Mastery. The enchantment lasts until used or until sunset, whichever comes first.
Empowered: The Mastery enhancement to circles or walls increases to +4.

“Mysteries of the Ancient Builders”
After 3 seconds of concentration while within the boundaries of a place of power, the caster may activate this cantrip in order to grant a willing recipient +1 Mastery on the next spell that they cast. The Hypotheses of Wonder

Type: Readied (special)

Requirements
(see below)

Casting Verbal
“My hypothesis is a contradiction? Magic itself is contradiction made real! What of the multitudinous impossibilities that all Workers of the Art most hold within themselves to cast the simplest of spells? Nature abhors contradiction, you say? How wonderful, then, to be supernatural!”

“The Rantings of the Mad Sage”
After 3 seconds of concentration, the caster may grant a willing recipient, who must be Hallucinating at the time of casting, the choice between ending that hallucination immediately OR extending the condition’s duration to the next Sunset while granting them a +1 Mastery as a non-stackable effect. If the latter is chosen, this cantrip, regardless of source, will have no effect on the recipient until their condition ends.
Empowered: The Mastery bonus increases to +2.

“That Which Lives Behind Your Sight”
If this cantrip is cast after the caster bids their resources during a formal investigation involving vile potions, gory preserved specimens, rotting fetishes, or creepily alien artifacts, it will have an unknown, chaotically transformative effect on the target of the investigation as dictated by the whim of the Marshal in charge.
Empowered: The transformative effect extends to all who are involved in the investigation, should the caster designate such before it is called.

“Peto’s Jaunt Into the Land of No Where”
If cast upon a willing recipient who is in the midst of meditating or preparing for a Divination or Prophecy of some kind, this cantrip will have an entirely unpredictable effect on their vision and upon the caster themselves.
